Some Unseen Lights: New LA Film + Video

* nieuw videowerk van een oude meester in een gelaagde optische beeldenrijkdom
* een miniature evocatie van Zuid-Californië als ruimtevaartlandschap
* parallellen tussen de controle over werknemers en de controle over beelden
* de geopolitieke implicaties van de planetaire theorie
* vuur & gezang
* klaprozen

A one-off, one night only program curated and introduced by Los Angeles-based film artist Marcy Saude.

This two-part program brings together a sampling of new film and video from Los Angeles artists working in and around the expanded edges of moving image forms. Topics and approaches include:
*the psychedelic potential of plant-life representations
*contemporary explorations of the dual nature of film material as physical object and medium
*a grappling with the recent occupation of Los Angeles City Hall by Occupy LA that finds commitment to politics and aesthetics coexisting on the raw fringes of documentary practice
*new video work from a longtime master of layered optical imagery
*a miniature evocation of Southern California as space-age landscape
*FURTHER: parallels between the control of workers and images; the geopolitical implications of planetary theory; fire and song; poppies; and a video about fruit.

In the second part of the program, degradation and deterioration of image and sound develops into an increasingly abstracted treatment of memory and fragmented narrative.
